Outreach efforts continue

Recently, a representative from the West Virginia Housing Development Fund’s Loan Origination Department attended two Realtor functions in Southern West Virginia. Ms. Patti Shamblin (MLS # 199704), Loan Originations Manager for the Fund, spoke to realtors at a fair housing conference held at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center and sponsored by The West Virginia Fair Housing Network. The following afternoon, she addressed a large crowd during a regular lunch meeting of the Beckley Board of REALTORS®, sponsored by BB&T, held at the legendary Char restaurant.

During each event, Ms. Shamblin detailed a number of Fund initiatives that realtors could use to assist their clients when purchasing a home. She discussed which programs would benefit first-time home buyers, current homeowners and other Fund programs that could help homeowners.

“Functions like this give us a much-needed opportunity to bring our programs to those on the frontline of the state’s housing industry,” stated Fund Executive Director Joe Hatfield.  “Realtors are a trusted and vital source for home buyers. By educating them about what we can offer, it gives them one more tool to help potential homeowners.”

Ms. Shamblin spoke about the Mortgage Bond Program, the WVHDF Refinance Program, the Homeownership Assistance Program, the On-Site Septic System Program and a number of other Fund programs. Ms. Shamblin also took a number of questions from members of the audience.

“It’s good to get out and talk about what we offer and get feedback from those who are using our programs,” Ms. Shamblin said. “We need to know the best and most efficient ways to help. By engaging West Virginia’s realty community, we’re making a connection with home buyers who could greatly benefit by what we have to offer.”

Over the past year, Ms. Shamblin has addressed realtor groups in Morgantown, Elkins and Beckley. She will speak to a realtor group in Charleston, W.Va., later this month.

Also at the Beckley Board of REALTORS® meeting, Shamblin presented representatives from BB&T with an award recognizing them as one of the State’s top producers for Fund single-family loans.
